I went to go check pull my laundry out of the dryer (I put it in last night, as usual) only to find out that stoopid me forgot to turn it on. What a fail. These hand pies…. are also of questionable success.
I couldn’t sleep again last night. I kept going back and forth from my room to the living area to figure out just what it was I wanted to do. I settled on making pie crust. I got the recipe from The Pioneer Woman and just figured I’d figure out what I wanted to do with it in the morning. NO, scratch that. I first made loaded mashed potatoes, but I don’t have a pic.
Question: does flour smell weird or is it just mine? I had mine in the trunk of my car for a couple of days because well…. I’m supposed to be banned from baking. I had to smuggle it in when Big Momma Bee was at work and I also kept putting it off because I wasn’t using it. So yeah. My flour smells weird. So did my cake flour, but I don’t know if it was just mine. I followed the directions as best as possible, hopefully I didn’t skip a step or five, I’ve been known to do that. I need to stop being so absentminded. Thankfully it doesn’t happen when I’m making my truffles.

Do they look even to you? I don’t feel like they were even enough. Like I should have pulled out a ruler and measured.
They went into the freezer until I had to get up to make brekkie for Daddy Bee. We decided on a Spomlet (Spam + Omelette = Spomlette), which didn’t turn out as omelette-y as I wanted it to be, but it was tasty. After I made the Spomlette, I rolled out a ball of dough, only to find it wasn’t sticking. It was… flaky and wouldn’t stay together to roll. I was muy sad. But I did my best to patch it up.
I decided on making a nutella pop-tart/hand pie and threw in some banana for good measure.
Then I threw it into the toaster oven, because I wasn’t going to turn on the big oven for two wee hand pies. I had the toaster oven at 350 and toasted for 10+ minutes. Looking back, I probably should have toasted it longer. and maybe sprinkled more sugar into the filling.
They tasted weird and I don’t know why. But I’ll work on it.
Edit: they taste better now that I’ve let them sit. How weird is that?
